Dye penetrant testing, also known as fluorescent penetrant testing, is a form of crack testing in which testing labs use a coloured test liquid to visualise cracks on the surface of the test object. For this purpose, a material-compatible liquid test medium is first applied to the test object and penetrates through cra…cks into its surface. After a defined exposure time, the surface is then cleaned and a further test medium, called developer, is applied. After the contact time of the latter has passed, cracks are clearly visible in colour.
